Valérie
Perrin.
One evolving visual world.
Polish editions & gift collections

Four original Polish cover designs: Życie Violette, Cudowne lata, Zapomniane niedziele and Colette.
Introduce a new voice.
Make it unforgettable.
Valérie Perrin was already well known in France, but unfamiliar to most Polish readers. The publishing team saw an opportunity to introduce her with a distinctive local visual approach rather than reproduce the original French covers.
I designed all four Polish covers, starting with Życie Violette. The visual direction drew on the novel’s tenderness, grief and emotional richness, using flowers, painterly textures and carefully balanced gold details. Each subsequent title needed its own personality while remaining recognisable as part of the author’s evolving collection.
Distinct stories / shared visual sensibility
Endpapers / optional dedication space
Visual storytelling beyond the jacket
The first impression.
Życie Violette.
The protagonist tends flowers at a cemetery — an everyday ritual entwined with her grief after the death of her child. Florals offered a meaningful starting point, not a decorative shortcut. The challenge was to express a book that felt intimate, elegant and emotionally layered, while also making a confident impression in the Polish market.

Życie Violette and Zapomniane niedziele — two chapters of an evolving visual identity.
One author.
Four distinct stories.
I wanted each book to feel individual, not like a recoloured template. Życie Violette, Cudowne lata and Zapomniane niedziele explore their own palettes and symbolic details; Colette introduces a musical visual motif. Typography, surface texture and a painterly sensibility help the books sit together without looking identical.

Books made
to be given.
The next idea was a separate, quieter gift-edition line: a different visual interpretation for readers who prefer a restrained aesthetic, and for people choosing a meaningful present. The design extends beyond the front cover into cloth-like finishes, considered details and endpapers that leave room for a personal message — without insisting on one.

Words to keep.
Words to give.
For two editions I designed collections of quote postcards. They could carry a handwritten message, become part of a gift or live inside the book as bookmarks. The idea was to let the experience continue beyond the final page — and give readers room to make it their own.

Books within
a wider launch.
The cover system also formed part of the publisher’s promotional communications, including campaign artwork featuring the author and the individual titles. These materials sat within a larger launch and publishing effort carried out together by Albatros’s editorial, graphics and marketing teams.

A readership
built together.
The Polish launch became a shared success for the publisher’s promotional, editorial and graphic teams. The books’ recognition offers context for the growing author brand; it is not presented as an individual designer’s sales achievement.
A collective publishing success. My individual contribution: concept and design of all four covers, the separate gift-edition visual direction, endpapers and quote postcards.
