Joe Hill.

An author.
Two exhibitions.
Wydawnictwo Albatros
International Book Fair in Kraków
Two exhibition stand visualizations: the Albatros portrait gallery and a solo Joe Hill exhibition

Two exhibition concepts designed for the Kraków Book Fair — the collective Albatros Portrait Gallery and the Joe Hill solo presentation. Concept visualizations.

The brief / The idea

Build the author’s presence.
Not just a book launch.

Joe Hill’s visit to Poland and the release of Król Smutek created an opportunity to introduce him as a distinctive voice in horror in his own right. The communication focused on the author and his body of work, without relying on his famous family connection.

One curatorial idea. Two very different exhibitions.

At the same book fair, I designed a collective gallery of the authors who shape Albatros and a smaller, dedicated presentation of Joe Hill’s world. A museum-inspired language connected both spaces, while each served a different purpose.

01 / The collective exhibition

The Albatros
Portrait Gallery.

How do you bring together authors from different genres without giving them the same visual identity? By giving them a shared frame. Inspired by portrait galleries and old homes filled with paintings, I chose to show the writers themselves — their faces rather than their books.

The larger stand — a collective portrait gallery, with author photographs presented as framed artworks. Concept visualization.

I initially proposed physical picture frames. Production budget constraints led to printed frames instead, while preserving the gallery concept.

02 / The solo exhibition

Joe Hill.
A world of his own.

The smaller stand reused the museum idea as an individual exhibition. Here, framed images were not portraits of many authors but illustrations from Joe Hill’s book covers, presented as artworks. The space also served the book signing and introduced visitors to his wider catalogue.

03 / The public campaign

From the page
to the city.

Digital and outdoor advertising are part of my regular publishing work. What made this campaign broader was the author's visit, its accompanying events and the physical experience of two purpose-designed exhibition spaces. The outdoor work acted as a connecting layer, reinforcing author recognition across public and retail touchpoints.

Citylight — the original design in an illuminated street placement.
04 / Digital distribution

A recognisable idea.
Different platforms.

A representative selection, not a catalogue of every format. The visual campaign was carried into online placements on Filmweb and Empik, including the typography required by Empik’s advertising guidelines.

Two original banner designs, shown in neutral screen frames. Filmweb / Empik. Empik requires the platform’s specified typeface for advertising creatives.

05 / Publishing production

Creative coordination
through production.

The Król Smutek cover was not my illustration or cover design. I coordinated its development with the external illustrator and supervised the production stage, then extended the published visual world into campaign materials and event communications.

Clear authorship

The original cover art is credited to its illustrator. My role covered creative coordination, production oversight and the campaign extensions.

The connecting idea

Two stands. Two stories.
One curatorial language.

The large stand introduced the publishing house through its writers. The small stand invited readers into Joe Hill’s illustrated universe.
